Bus Services for Mt Cotton State School

I've got some good news for local parents regarding the proposed change to bus services for Mt Cotton State School students.

I've been working with the P&C executive team on ways to reduce overcrowding on some routes and improve overall services.

Following several meetings with Translink representatives, I want to congratulate the P&C on their success.

For the start of Term 1 2021, Translink are amending the existing 5102PM service alignment, to provide a dedicated afternoon service, focussed on Mt Cotton State School only.

5102PM will depart Mt Cotton State School and service Papaya Street, Hardwood Drive, Valley Way, Seeana Drive (up to the Pimelea Crescent roundabout of the Woods Estate) and Village Drive (to the Settlers Circuit roundabout of the Cotton Ridge Estate).

I have attached a copy of the letter which Translink sent to the Mt Cotton State School P&C, as a follow up to concerns previously raised regarding overcrowding of buses within the Mt Cotton township.

However in an unrelated change, just before Christmas, Transdev (the bus company servicing Mount Cotton State School) advised the school community they would be amending the routes to avoid some streets within the Woods & Cotton Ridge estates, citing safety issues.

Again though, the P&C has gone into bat for local families!

Through our collective efforts and with the assistance of the Redland City Council (who we thank very much for having some tree trimming done - a quick response and support which is greatly appreciated), we have secured partial restoration of access to the estate.

Some students, however, will still have a longer walk to get to their bus stop, or wait along Hardwood Drive. Neither of these is really sufficient going forward, so further effort will be made to extend the bus route further or establish a new, safe stop.

That will require more significant amendments to traffic calming and parking which would need to be considered by local residents and Council.

We will send out further updates as developments occur.
