Why did you decide to get involved?

“I’ve always been an armchair/facebook politician, a comment here and a post there, but Mick came to my door in Shailer Park and as he and I were chatting about our values, it became clear we were both on a very similar page.

He asked me what I thought about stepping up and doing some volunteer work, doing phone banking, talking with locals about issues that affect us in our community. At first I was a bit daunted by the idea, but nonetheless I stepped up to the challenge.

Since then I’ve spent a lot of time helping raise awareness about supporting local jobs through the government’s Buy Queensland policy. I’ve been able to let Mick know that improving frontline services like better schools and hospitals are things most people are really interested in.

Overall it is a fantastic experience working with Mick. I feel as though I know my local area a lot more than I did before I volunteered. I want to keep volunteering because once you do, you become part of the team, part of the family, where we all help out together.

Anyway if you’d like to get involved head down to see Mick and the team and put up your hand to join the team. It’s easy, rewarding and you feel good about it too.”
