Many Queenslanders are doing it tough. And right now, one of the biggest pressures we’re facing is the simple cost of driving from A to B.
Whether it’s filling up to get to work, taking the kids to sport, or getting away on a weekend day trip, fuel costs can hit household budgets hard. Locals say they’re sick of being stung by sudden fuel price spikes that feel completely out of their control.
Last week in the Queensland Parliament, Labor introduced new legislation to make transport more affordable.
Our Transport Affordability Bill will cap fuel price increases so petrol stations can’t jack up prices by more than five cents a day. Fuel retailers will also be required to lock in and advertise their prices by 2pm the day before. It gives Queenslanders the power to shop around and avoid nasty surprises at the pump.
This is a common-sense reform, backed by the RACQ, and already working in other parts of the country.
At the same time, we’re fighting to protect Labor’s 50 cent public transport fares, a policy that has already delivered millions of cheaper trips for Queenslanders since its introduction in 2024.
Under our plan, any attempt to increase those fares would need to be debated openly in Parliament, so no government can increase fares in secret.
Transport should be affordable, whether you’re driving on the M1 into the city, or catching the 555.
Now Queenslanders can tell the Government: back these laws to help make transport cheaper for everyone. Scan the QR code on the image and sign for cheaper petrol and 50 cent fares forever.
