Every single one of Logan’s 70 suburbs will be eligible for major savings on home battery systems from July 1, with a new initiative aimed at cutting electricity bills by up to 90% for households, small businesses, and community groups.
There was much applause locally when the Prime Minister announced the Government will make batteries significantly more affordable, slashing around $4,000 off the cost of a typical system. The scheme is designed to ease pressure on family budgets while also helping reduce peak demand on the energy grid, which lowers electricity prices across the board.
The initiative follows a similar rebate offered in Queensland last year, which was quickly snapped up due to high demand.
Member for Springwood, Mick de Brenni, said the new round of support will give more people control over their energy use and bring broader benefits to the community.
“Over 40,000 homes in Logan have solar, but very few can store it and use it when needed most.
“This program for a million home and small business batteries helps bring down power prices for everyone by reducing peak demand,” Mr de Brenni said.
“Whether it’s a family home, a local café, or a community sports club, this is about you keeping more of what you earn.”
Households that install a battery system under the scheme could save up to $2,300 a year on power bills, and clubs and small businesses even more.
Even those without solar panels are expected to benefit, as the wider use of batteries helps reduce pressure on the grid during peak times.
